Community Impact

Buy something great; do something greater

With every purchase of vintage children's books and ephemera, you help spread the love of reading, because a portion of every sale is donated toward children's literacy.
Here's what the Rhyme and Reason Books community has helped make possible:

A leveled library for
Mississippi 1st graders

We helped Mrs. Cherry at the Lizana Elementary School in Gulfport, MS, get her first graders' off to a great start by contributing toward her new classroom library organized by reading level. Now every child  can easily find a "just right" book.

Harry Potter books
for California 5th graders

We helped Mr. Gates at the Linda Verde School in Lancaster, CA, get even his most reluctant readers engaged with a captivating book by helping him purchase a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for each of his fifth grade students to read as a class.

News magazines for 4th graders in Flint, Michigan

We helped Ms. Evertsen at the Linden Charter Academy in Flint, MI, purchase a subscription to Scholastic News so her fourth graders can read and discuss real-world issues. She says it's particularly difficult for students in low income areas to access quality, child-friendly nonfiction.
Other projects supported:
  • Magnetic boards and letter magnets for Texas elementary students to practice word-building.
  • Books to be included in a book vending machine in an Indiana elementary school. Children will earn tokens for "purchasing" books of their very own.
  • A "glow party" for Texas 4th graders with invisible pens, neon markers and glow-in-the-dark sunglasses to help them practice literacy skills
  • A virtual visit by an Edgar Allan Poe portrayer with creative writing students in a Florida high school while they were learning online
